The honorable judges, my worthy opponents, and members of the floor. First of all, let us praise to The Almighty God. Because of his blessing, we are able to attend this English speech contest. On this special occasion, I would like to deliver a speech about child abuse.

Ladies and gentlemen,
Child abuse is anything deliberately hurts a child. There are four types of child abuse. The first type is physical abuse. Physical abuse is any injury to a kid's body that does not happen by accident. The second form is sexual abuse. Sexual abuse is any sexual involvement or contact between an adult and a child. However, sexual abuse doesn't always involved body contact. Exposing a child to a sexual material or situation is also sexually abusive. The third type is emotional abuse. Emotional abuse is when a child is denied love, approval, and security. The last type of child abuse is neglect. Neglect is when a child isn't given things they need to grow, like food and clothes.

Child abuse often happens. Many things can cause child abuse. And one of them is lack of knowledge. People who did child abuse might didn't know that they were doing it. Because it is not that easy to identify a child abuse. As I've just said, there is also emotional abuse which is more difficult to be identified.

And then who should be responsible about child abuse? In my private opinion, it is the duty of adults, including parent, caretaker, family member, neighbor, or anyone who sees it.

Parents are responsible because they must be the closest person to the child. Parents have to protect their children, make them feel safe and happy, and being a good listener whenever their child needs them. Unfortunately, there are parents who are very busy with their jobs until they cannot spare their times with their children, to play or just having a chat. Another type of parent is parent who doesn't allow children to play with their friends very often. Children's emotional growth won't be optimal.

If parent abuse their own child, can you imagine the child's feeling? How is your own feeling if you were abused by your own parent? Can you see the cruelty? And how about the child's future? In the future, the child will have difficulties to believe others, to socialize with others. And it is not impossible for him to continue the cycle of child abuse. He will treat his child in the way he was treated in the past. We don't want it, do we?

Ladies and gentlemen,
sometimes parent give their trust to a caretaker their child. So if anything happens to the child, the caretaker is also responsible.

Another person who should be responsible is family member. Well, we know that a child often does something annoying and made his sister angry. And then the sister will be out of control and slap him accidentally. That is why family member also has a role in child abuse. Carelessness will endanger a child.

Neighbor also take part if child abuse happens. Because as a neighbor, we have to help each other. And children must be protected, even from their own parents.

Government also has duty on child abuse. We know that government has a job to protect and makes sure that all of the citizen--including children--feel safe. In Indonesia, we have Child Protection Commission. It is an organisation which want to watch, protect children, and prevent any possibility of child abuse by state, organisation, or person.
